Our little patch of nature: Formosa Park

West Hollywood's darling and verdant pocket park is right around the corner from Spark Speech Studio. Yes! Thus, when it's a nice day (okay, this last bit is a joke, since it's nearly always a nice day in LA!), and for kids who are okay to go out supervised (who won't bolt!), we sometimes visit to get in some nature time.

What can we do there? A structured nature scavenger hunt, one of my all-time favorite activities, targeting vocabulary concepts or sound-specific articulation practice words. For concepts, we can look for items based on color, texture, category, etc.

The benefits of learning in and from nature are well documented. Please see our article about the Forest Kindergartens of Scandinavia and England.
